Time For A New Home

If you follow this blog for my personal updates, you will now need to follow my life at Ravyn's Ramblings.

The Beliefs and Convictions of Ravyn

I am a woman with strong beliefs and convictions. I am also a woman who is not afraid to stand up for those beliefs and convictions, no matter who it may offend.

This is not something new. I was brought up this way and have said what I feel even when it got me in trouble in school. If you ask my opinion, before I answer, I will ask you if you really want it as I will tell you how I feel - whether you like it or not.

My political views are liberal progressive and I feel that Thomas Jefferson's presidency should serve as a model for how this nation should be run.

I believe that spirituality is more important than what religion you belong to and I believe that everyone has the right to that religion as long as it does not step on anyone's civil rights. To this end, I wish that people would remember that the Pilgrims left England for a new land so that they would have freedom FROM religion; meaning that they wished to worship their own way and that others had the same right.

I believe in same-sex marriage. I believe that animals have the right to be treated humanely, especially when they are giving their lives to nourish humans. I believe that all humans have the right to the basic needs of food, medicine and shelter - not merely if they can afford them. As a physically disabled person, I know how hard it can be to receive the treatment you need if you do not have insurance or the right insurance.

I believe that we were placed on this earth to help our neighbors. I believe in my country and fully support those fighting for it - though I may not agree with the war.

I believe that every human is equal to another and neither religion, race, sexual orientation, political affiliation or monetary value makes anyone less than or better than the person standing beside them.

I believe that women have the right over their own bodies and no group - whether political or religious - has the right to dictate what they do with them.

I believe in the freedom of speech and will defend anyone's right to that freedom. I do not believe that freedom of speech should be used to make someone or some group feel as if they are less than what they are - human.

I believe we are all responsible for keeping the environment safe for future generations. We are only here for a limited amount of time and, as such, we hold the world in trust for those who come after us.

I feel that, if our Founding Fathers were alive today, they would shake their heads and wonder how and when our nation went so wrong.

We all have the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Too bad that to some, those are merely words to follow if you are rich enough.
